Role-first rankings for dogs, guns, and animals while the Alpha meta is still moving.

Tier List Hub

Hounds of Marrow County is still in Alpha (V1.7 / 1.73), so any tier list that pretends to be final is already wrong. Creator pileofsheep is shipping features, cosmetics windows, and balance changes while the haunted Appalachian loop is still settling. This hub explains how we rank, what we refuse to invent, and which child pages to open before you spend Marks on a dog, a gun, or a hunt plan you cannot respec cleanly.

Use the lists as decision filters, not as absolute truth. A tracking-heavy mutt that shines on day hunts can feel weak if you only farm gnomes after dusk. A close-range shotgun kit that deletes threats in brush can waste ammo on open ridges. A “prestige” animal that looks great on a Lodge wall can be terrible Marks-per-hour on a full server. Rankings here always start from role and playstyle, then ask you to verify traits, attachments, and routes in your own session.

Why Alpha tiers keep shifting

Early Access survival games change faster than polished live-service titles. In this experience you already have a large surface area: 40+ dogs with personalities and traits, 40+ animals to hunt, skin, and sell, 15+ guns with playstyle variety and attachments, gnomes that remember you and pay about 1,400 Marks each, plus a customizable Lodge for waypoints and trophies. When any one of those systems gets a patch, yesterday’s “S-tier” pick can become situational overnight.

Treat every ranking on this wiki with three caveats:

  1. Server feel matters. Online co-op servers run at size 16. Noise, dog pathing, and gun fights feel different with a packed lobby than with three quiet hunters.
  2. Day and night are not the same job. Night is lighter on some daytime taxes, but the forest hides more than animals after dusk. A combat-assist dog may outrank a pure tracker when you expect gnome aggression.
  3. Marks economy is the real ladder. If a pick does not help you hunt, skin, sell, fish, or survive long enough to bank loot, it is not high tier for progression—even if it looks flashy.

How we build rankings (and what we will not invent)

We do not invent breed names, fake animal species ladders, DPS sheets, or unpublished trait percentages. Public store copy confirms dogs differ by personality and traits, guns cover various playstyles with attachments, and dozens of animals exist to hunt, skin, and sell. That is enough to rank archetypes and teach evaluation habits. Anything more specific belongs in your HUD, not in a fabricated table.

Our ranking philosophy:

  • Role first. Tracking, combat assist, and beginner reliability for dogs. Close, mid, and long for guns. Pelt volume, trophy prestige, danger, and beginner targets for animals.
  • Session goal second. Quiet pelt runs, fishing stabilizers, gnome farming, Lodge trophy hunting, or teaching a friend on co-op.
  • Cost and risk third. Marks spent, ammo burned, and whether a failed fight sends you back to the Lodge empty-handed.
  • Patch awareness always. Re-check after Alpha description updates on the Roblox page.

If a community clip claims a secret breed, a hidden damage formula, or a permanent animal meta, treat it as unverified until you can reproduce it. This wiki prefers honest gaps over confident fiction.

Start with these tier pages

  • Dogs tier list — role tiers for tracking, combat assist, and beginner-friendly companions, plus a checklist for reading traits in-game.
  • Guns tier list — playstyle tiers for close, mid, and long engagements, with attachment thinking and no fake numbers.
  • Animals tier list — role tiers for pelt volume, trophy prestige, danger/risk, and beginner targets—without invented species meta.

Pair those lists with practical guides when they are live on the wiki:

How to use a tier list in a real session

Before you join a size-16 server, decide your goal for the next thirty minutes. If the goal is learning the map, prefer beginner-friendly dogs, forgiving mid-range guns, and beginner animal targets. If the goal is Marks, prioritize tracking, efficient skinning routes, or fishing when lanes are contested—then only take gnome fights you can finish. If the goal is stress-testing night content, bias toward combat assist and close- or mid-range kits that forgive surprise contacts.

After the session, write down what failed: dog ignored a track, gun felt wrong at the distance you fight most, animal pocket paid poorly versus fishing, Lodge waypoint was too far from your hunting lane. Those notes beat any static S–F chart. Bring them back here when Alpha 1.73 moves to the next label on the store page.

Rankings are tools. In Marrow County, the forest still writes the final grade.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for hunters in Marrow County.

Why is there no fixed S–F dog breed chart?

Alpha public info confirms 40+ dogs with personalities and traits, not a published breed ladder with stats. We rank roles and teach in-game evaluation instead of inventing names or numbers.

How often should I re-check these tiers?

After every Alpha description change on the Roblox experience page, after seasonal crates end, and whenever dog, gun, or animal feel changes in your own sessions. Start at the Updates Hub.

Should I copy a YouTuber’s loadout blindly?

No. Match their role to your goal, then verify traits and attachments yourself. Use the dogs, guns, and animals tier lists as filters.

Do co-op partners change what is high tier?

Yes. On size-16 servers, a combat-assist dog and mid-range gun often rise when teammates create noise, while solo trackers and fishing stabilizers shine on quieter routes.
